A message from Christina Dodd:
While I've always appreciated the chance to support libraries
and charities across the country by donating signed books for raffles,
the requests have grown so numerous it's impossible to keep up with
all of them.
To support learning and reading in the communities close to my
heart, I annually donate $5060 to the Whatcom Literacy
Council to support a dozen students and train five tutors.
I've committed to this amount for the next three years. I also annually
donate $2000.00 to the Emmett Idaho Public Library.
In addition, my husband, Scott, and I annually support charities
serving the homeless, abused women and their children, and the terminally
ill, with cash donations:
The Opportunity Council
Dorothy Place provides apartments to women and children who are survivors of
domestic violence. Maple Alley Inn serves hot meals to people who are hungry
and in need.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwest Washington
Big Brothers Big Sisters' mission is to improve the quality of life
for children in by building supportive one-to-one relationships
between children and positive role models.
Brigid Collins Washington
Brigid Collins's mission is to break the cycle of child abuse in
Whatcom Count.
Camp Fire USA Samish
Council
Camp Fire USA serves boys and girls, and is all-inclusive, welcoming
everyone regardless of race, religion, socio-economic status, disability,
and sexual orientation.
Lydia Place, Washington
Lydia Place is a six-month transitional housing program for homeless
women and their children.
Womencare Shelter and Domestic Violence Services
Womencare's mission is to provide emergency shelter, a 24-hour domestic
violence helpline, and support services for victims of domestic
violence.
Whatcom Hospice Foundation
Whatcom Hospice provides special care for dying people and their
families.
Bellingham High School Red Raider Band
What can I say? Scott was
the lead trumpet in high school, and local high school bands are
close to his heart. When he discovered the kids in the Bellingham
High School band were marching in uniforms older than they were,
he made a sizeable donation to help replace uniforms and buy instruments.
You can tell the kind of charities that are close to my heart, and
that I support charities in my area.
Thank you for choosing local charites that have special meaning
for you, and for helping people who can’t help themselves.
Warmly,
Christina Dodd
